- How to get to Leiden?
The easiest way to reach Leiden by public transport is by train. From Schiphol airport it takes 15-20 minutes, with multiple trains per hour departing in the direction of Leiden (look for ‘sprinters’ with Leiden as final destination or ‘intercities’ with final destination Den Haag, Vlissingen, Dordrecht or Rotterdam). But Leiden is also well connected to other cities in the Netherlands. For the most current information about train schedules and tickets you can go to www.ns.nl/en, the website of the Dutch railway company NS.
Another website where you can find information about public transport schedules (including other types of public transport such as bus and tram) is 9292.nl/en. - Where to stay?
There are plenty of hotels and b&b’s in Leiden, such as the Fletcher Wellness-Hotel right next to the central train station. Some other options can be found on www.visitleiden.nl/en. Sharing an apartment may save costs. Unfortunately The Netherlands doesn't have a campus system for universities.
Alternatively, you could choose to stay in another city nearby. Towns like the Hague, Rotterdam and Delft are all just a short train ride away from Leiden. For train schedules see www.ns.nl/en.
- Is the venue centrally located?
Yes, the Kamerling Onnes Building is a university building situated in the city centre of Leiden, close to other university buildings (such as the Hortus Botanicus), shopping streets and cafés.
It’s a 20-minute walk from the train station. Alternatively, head to the bus station in front of the train station and take bus 2, 4, 6, 7, 169, 182, 183, 187 or 400. After ~12 minutes get off at bus stop Korevaarstraat. From there, it is a 3 minute walk to the KOG.
